My name is Alex and I am a Certified Play Therapist based in Dawlish, Devon. I have a Master’s level Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) in Play Therapy (Distinction) awarded by Leeds Beckett University and the Academy of Play and Child Psychotherapy. I am also a qualified and experienced primary teacher. For more information about my professional background and experience, please visit my "About Alex" page.
Often, language is insufficient for children to be able to express their thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Play therapy is a specialised form of counselling or psychotherapy which maintains that play is a child’s natural language and toys, symbol and metaphor are a child’s words. By building a therapeutic relationship with the child, I provide a safe, confidential space in the play room setting. This enables the child to explore and express their thoughts, feelings and experiences at their own pace. Play therapy can be non-directive (when the child leads) or directive (when the therapist leads).
I offer 1-1 individual play therapy and group play therapy for up to 4 children per group. I hold professional membership with Play Therapy UK (PTUK) accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). As a PTUK registrant, I adhere to PTUK’s Ethical Framework, complete 30 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) per year, attend regular clinical supervision and comply with governance and safeguarding procedures. I uphold a current DBS certificate and professional indemnity insurance. My PTUK membership number is 201501077.
I very much look forward to working with you.
